Bio

I was born and raised in the GTA by immigrant parents. The eldest of 3 children, I always played a big part in my parents entrepreneurial ventures: At an elementary age, my family and I collectively made and sold NAAN for large events; my mom would make the dough and roll them out before heading to her night shift at the chocolate factory (can you guess how I was rewarded for helping?) and my father and I spent nights waiting for them to rise perfectly before baking, cooling and packing them. When I was 10, my parents got a job running a convenience store; since their English was weak, I found myself helping them with paperwork (Intro to Legalese), dealing with vendors and customers, etc. As a teenager, my parent’s store (they eventually bought into it) became a huge part of my life (still is), and I would bus down after school to work the counter or help with stocking and cleaning (again, guess how I was rewarded for helping!) and I enjoyed tutoring and helping new immigrants with their resume building and job searches at the East Scarborough Storefront, which was located in the same mall at the time. And although I will not list them all here, these endeavours with my parents gave me endless lessons and skills; a LOT of which would be applicable as a City Councillor! Sidenote: there was also a library in the mall and lots of newspapers and magazines in the store, all of which the bookworm in me thoroughly enjoyed in between work and volunteering. In my early 20s, I started investing into small business myself while doing various volunteer work and, in hindsight, didn’t have much career direction. When I became a mom in 2010 (then again in 2012 & 2013), I became a stay at home mom. During this time, I developed new skillsets like momming, cooking, baking, DIYs, negotiations, DEBATING, just to name a few! Once all 3 kids were in school, I became heavily involved with volunteering within the school through Parent Council, school community engagement events, fundraisers and various volunteer initiatives. I also served as a ward representative on the French as a Second Language Advisory Committee to the TDSB, which taught me a lot about the inner workings of our education systems and about advocacy. Throughout all of this, I had been passively investing and working on various entrepreneurial projects, but about three years ago, I got licensed as a Realtor and achieved an award winning beginning, and eventually became a Broker and launched Kazi Homes. My real estate business focuses on the Durham region (+ Scarborough), and it became my job to help individuals and families find the perfect neighbourhood for them within the region. During this time, I found myself looking for a neighbourhood that my own family could call home and we chose Pickering (Amberlea neighbourhood to be specific) to be our new home.
